Hiking 5 Hours
Deep in the Canyon: An Adventure Trek
Naturalist-led, moderate hike with historical and geological interpretations from the rim into the Canyon.
This excursion is more active and should be of great appeal to people in good physical health who want to work their legs as well as their minds on this enriching and stunningly beautiful hike below the rim of the Grand Canyon. Your naturalist trip leader will guide you through geologic time and offer an abundance of interesting information about the canyon as you traverse one of a few potential trails. (Trail will vary depending upon weather, seasonality, crowds, and trip leader discretion the day of the tour.)
Interpretation of the natural, geological, and historical character of the canyon will be the focus of your descent. With multiple stops, we will learn about the canyon and the unique attributes that make it one of the seven natural wonders of the world. After experiencing the tranquil beauty of the Canyon and a light snack at your turnaround point, your guide will lead you through a moderate hike back to the rim, with multiple breaks for interpretation and resting to assure your comfort. Though hikes will range from three to six miles depending on the group's ability and interest, they usually cover roughly 1,000 vertical feet down into the canyon, which makes for a more strenuous ascent back to the canyon rim. Exertion level overall is classified as just below a Somewhat Hard rating on the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) scale.
