Territories Costa Rica Costa Rica Coast To Coast : Journey Highlights

Along the way on this journey of extremes—from Tortuguero’s Caribbean rain forest, to the cloud forest of San Gerardo, to the Osa Peninsula’s pristine Pacific coastline—visit an organic coffee plantation, make traditional agua dulce at an old-fashioned sugar mill, and watch for howler monkeys, three-toed sloths, coatimundi, and other forest dwellers, and beautiful birds like the trogon, resplendent quetzal, and fiery-throated hummingbird.

  • Wildlife watching: Watch for an incredible diversity of wildlife as you range through a variety of habitats. Possibilities include scarlet macaws, toucans, quetzals, monkeys, sloths, and coatimundi.
  • Snorkeling: Snorkel in the crystal clear waters around the coral reefs of Caño Island with a variety of colorful reef and game fish.
  • Forest hiking: Hike in tropical rain forest and temperate cloud forest with a naturalist to introduce you to the distinctive details and differences of each ecosystem.
  • Boating: Penetrate the Caribbean jungles in small boats skimming along rivers and canals.

“Costa Rica is a hotspot for the world’s biodiversity. The country is also committed to fostering responsible travel and respect for its unique environments—making it a natural new destination for Off the Beaten Path.” —Bill Bryan, OBP Co-founder
