How custom-made travel works at Off the Beaten Path

We’ve been tailoring custom journeys for clients since our very inception in the mid-1980s! The process is all about connecting the interests of the travelers with the best that a given destination has to offer. To achieve this, we rely upon good ol’ fashioned conversation! Our geographically focused travel designer love to meet new people and learn about their interests for travel. Understanding your goals informs the process immensely and serves as the foundation for the development of a bespoke travel experience for you and yours.

The trip detailed on this web page is a sample of something we’ve done for other clients over the years. In order to start the process of designing your own custom travel experience, just call us at (800) 445-2995 and ask to speak with one of our Travel Advisors. After a bit of time on the phone, you will then have the opportunity to connect with one of our travel designers.

The entire planning process is very personalized and works in an iterative fashion until a final, perfect trip has been created. We then secure all of the lodging, activities, and guided experiences associated with your trip and send along abundant trip materials capturing these details – and much more about your travels!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Las Vegas

Arrive into Las Vegas, secure your rental car and make your way to Zion National Park! Staying just outside of the park in the welcoming town of Springdale, you are perfectly primed for your coming days of exploration.

Days 2-3: Zion National Park

Today you’ll immerse in the iconic canyons of Zion, with your guide selecting the perfect hike to connect you with this incredible place. For the adventurous, we suggest a fantastically fun day of canyoneering – a classic Southwest activity that delights at every age!

Days 4-5: Lake Powell

Bidding goodbye to this unforgettable place, head for Page, Arizona, your base for exploring Lake Powell. This afternoon, a Navajo guide will take you through a dramatic red cleft in the earth for an intimate, unforgettable slot canyon experience. Tomorrow we suggest a day on the water to explore, play and swim in the twists, turns, and beauty of the Glen Canyon Dam Recreation Area.

Days 6-7: Grand Canyon National Park

Time for the one-and-only Grand Canyon National Park! A few fantastic stops are along the way today. The historic Cameron Trading Post has a gallery for fine Native American and Southwest art and Horseshoe Bend Viewpoint allows you to gaze down at the winding river from 1,000 feet above. In Grand Canyon National Park, your private guide will tailor the day to you. You might take an easy walk along the South Rim, or pick your way down along the canyon wall to see the rock layers up close.

Day 8: Las Vegas

After breakfast and some deep breaths of the high desert air, make your way to Las Vegas. Stay in luxury on the Strip and experience the best of Las Vegas on your last night in Canyon Country. Be entranced at an evening performance of “O” by the one-and-only Cirque du Soleil. Afterwards, consider a walk along the strip to see the Bellagio Fountains and Mirage Volcano at night!

Day 9: Departure from Las Vegas

Bid adieu to Canyon Country and make your way to the airport for flights home!

Into the Grand Canyon

When I was nineteen, a backpacker, and in Paris, many years ago, I looked out a train window and saw the Eiffel Tower. I’d forgotten about the tower’s existence so it was as if I had not only personally discovered it, but was the first to understand its stark, industrial beauty. This is one of […]

Seven Wonders of Saguaro National Park

Posted on 04/25/2019

As luck would have it, I arrived in Saguaro National Park right after a March rainy spell. The Sonoran Desert was alive and thriving, and the saguaro were extraordinary. Each seemed to be thinking its own thoughts—present but private, attendant but uninvolved. The Tohono O’odham people consider saguaro to be friends and respected members of […]
