Glacier National Park holds a near-intact collection of native animals and plants – everything from grizzly bears and lynx, to whitebark pine and Ice Age wildflowers. Take a thrilling half-day float on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, and enjoy rides across Swiftcurrent and Josephine Lakes to get to the Grinnell Glacier trailhead. Itinerary

Day 1: Whitefish, MT

Meet your guide and fellow travelers in Whitefish for a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Whitefish and the Flathead River

Kick off the adventure with a half-day float on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, which forms the southern boundary of Glacier National Park. Then, you will either explore Whitefish Mountain Resort with your guide or enjoy some down time to meander around charming downtown Whitefish. Enjoy dinner on your own tonight.

Day 3: West-Side Hiking

Hike the west side of Glacier National Park today. Take a hike on either Avalanche Lake Trail or Trail of the Cedars. See old-growth cedars that stand 80-150 feet tall! Arrive at your historic lodging this afternoon to relax on the shore of Lake McDonald.

Day 4: Going-to-the-Sun Road, Logan Pass, and Many Glacier

It’s time for the spectacular drive up the Going-to-the-Sun Road – “up” being the operative word. The road runs through the heart of the park, connecting the east and west boundaries and crossing the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. Once at the pass, you’ll take a guided hike – looking for marmots, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats along the way. After the scenic hike, you’ll continue the migration over to the east side of the park. You'll arrive at the wildly scenic Many Glacier Hotel with time to relax. It’s been said that the view from the deck of the hotel alone is worth the trip!

Day 5: Many Glacier area

Watch the rugged mountains of Glacier light up with the rising sun as you prepare for a terrific day! The fun begins with boat rides across Swiftcurrent and Josephine Lakes, followed by optional hikes.

Day 6: Badger-Two Medicine Area

Journey to the Badger-Two Medicine area today. Stretch your legs with a gorgeous hike accompanied by a local Blackfeet guide. After lunch, enjoy a Native American cultural presentation by a Blackfeet elder. Boat across Two Medicine Lake, and celebrate this memory-making trip and vowing to return!

Day 7: Whitefish for Departures Home

Linger over breakfast this morning, soaking in the last mountain views across Swiftcurrent Lake. Then say “so long” to Glacier National Park and return to Glacier Park International Airport for afternoon flights home.

Lake McDonald Lodge

Originally opened to visitors in 1914, the Lake McDonald Lodge is an historic park lodge full of character. While the lodge rooms and cabins used to show their age a bit, a renovation in 2015 has really helped to refresh the accommodations. Most important is the favored location along the Going-to-the-Sun Road and on the shores of Lake McDonald – a spectacularly scenic mountain lake.
