This 25,000 square mile peninsula is sometimes called “Alaska in miniature” because of its glaciers, mountain peaks, wild rivers, alpine tundra, coastal rainforest, ice fields, and forests. Not to mention the almost 2,200 species calling the peninsula home – brown bears, humpback whales, puffins, sea otters, bald eagles, sea lions, and so much more! In fact, the peninsula holds all of Alaska’s wildlife habitats but one.

This custom itinerary features wild landscapes and abundant wildlife punctuated by action-packed experiences like kayaking to tidewater glaciers and fishing a world-class river with a local guide. Enjoy naturalist-led hikes in spruce forests, past waterfalls, and through a temperate coastal rainforest. Itinerary

Day 1: Anchorage

Arrive into the Anchorage International Airport and spend the night in the heart of Anchorage.

Day 2: Homer

Today, you’ll make the exhilarating drive south to Homer, along the entire length of the scenic Kenai Peninsula. Stop for wildlife and hiking trails. Homer will welcome you with its cheerful, artsy downtown and its prime location across the Cook Inlet from Katmai National Park.

Days 3-4: Homer & Katmai National Park

Take advantage of Homer’s location with two exciting Alaska days. View brown bears in their natural habitat in Katmai National Park after a morning flight full of dramatic scenery – active volcanoes, giant glaciers, and Alaska’s rugged landscapes. The next day, you’ll board a water taxi for an active day of guided kayaking and hiking.

Days 5-7: Seward & Kenai Fjords National Park

It’s time to drive north to the port city of Seward, nestled between mountains and the sea. Along the way stop for a half day of fishing with a knowledgeable local guide. Spend a day at sea exploring the striking wonders of Kenai Fjords National Park - active tidewater glaciers, rugged islands rookeries and abundant wildlife including sea otters, whales, porpoises, Steller sea lion colonies, and more. Then, lace up your hiking boots for a naturalist-led hike through spruce forests and past a thundering waterfall.

Days 8-9: Girdwood

Spend your last two nights in Girdwood, surrounded by the Chugach National Forest and views of the seven hanging glaciers in the valley. A naturalist-led hike through a temperate coastal rainforest will kick off your explorations as you learn about herb lore, identify bird song, and hear stories about Native and Alaskan history.

Day 10: Fly Home from Anchorage

Your journey home today will start along the iconic Seward Highway. Savor these last glimpses of Alaska before your departure home from Anchorage.

Hotel Captain Cook

Hotel Captain Cook is in the heart of downtown Anchorage, with excellent access to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, as well as restaurants and shops. Built after the 1964 earthquake at a time when Alaska was flush with new oil money, the hotel has a nautical theme and is both grand and classic Alaska. The hotel takes up an entire city block and towers top the building. All 550 guest rooms have sweeping views of either the Cook Inlet or Chugach Mountains, and there are three restaurants on site for your convenience.

Homer Inn and Spa

The Homer Inn & Spa is located on a gentle bluff above Kachemak Bay, and provides an an intimate and artistic setting, in a unique beach front location. Conveniently located between the downtown area and the famed Homer Spit, this is an ideal base for your explorations in the area.

Seward Windsong Lodge

Just outside the city of Seward, travel down the winding road to Exit Glacier and you'll find your paradise away from home, Seward Windsong Lodge. The towering mountains, fragrant spruce trees and the rush of the Resurrection River awaken your senses on arrival.

Alyeska Resort

Alyeska Resort is a large full service retreat, set in the heart of the Chugach Mountains, right at the foot of the Mt. Alyeska ski resort. There are several great hiking trails right from the resort that will wind you through the lush temperate rainforest surrounding the lodge, or will take you high above the resort, giving you spectacular views of the seven hanging glaciers in this valley. As a full service resort, there are several dining options available for your stay, including the Seven Glaciers Hotel, which is accessed via exciting tram ride and sits at the top of Mt Alyeska!
