One Group, One Canoe | New Zealand Waka Paddle

Waka hourua are the traditional double-hulled canoes the Māori used to reach New Zealand, holding a significant role in their culture and connection with the sea. Exploring Abel Tasman National Park on board a waka, with a paddle in hand, offers an amazing way to see Golden Bay and gives the paddlers a deeper understanding of Māori culture.

In the video, OBP guide Sinchan Haria talks about what learning to paddle a waka means to our OBP travelers – “You have one canoe, one group, one guide. You have the same experience together. And that’s what makes it beautiful.”
