Put time into perspective by ringing in the New Year on the Grand Canyon’s South Rim—millions of years in the making. Winter is an enchanting time here. It’s quiet, uncrowded and visually stunning, with the play of low-angled light and an occasional lace shawl of snow on canyon temples and buttes. Days are typically sunny, with highs in the low 40s F. Expect great guides, unique moments, and accommodations in enviable places on this naturalist-led, outdoor-focused New Year celebration.
The group gathers in the vibrant college town of Flagstaff for a welcome dinner. In the morning, you’re off to the Grand Canyon, where your room is a stone’s throw from the South Rim, and your three days in the park are filled with hiking and exploring. New Year’s Eve brings a memorable celebration at historic El Tovar Hotel, which overlooks the canyon.
The journey ends with a couple of days in the red-rock wonderland of Sedona, based in a lovely lodge with fireplace and outdoor hot tub. Explore and absorb the beautiful surroundings with hiking, a jeep tour, and a spectacular night of stargazing. To be sure, this journey has all the ingredients for one heck of a Happy New Year!
