Breakaway from the everyday on this week-long small group adventure to Baja California Sur. Start the week immersed in two of Baja’s most beautiful nature reserves. In the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve, the mountains that form the spine of the Baja peninsula, you’ll set out for early morning birding, hike through the biodiverse landscape, and spend the night under the stars at a family-owned luxury camp in the heart of Baja’s pristine wilderness. After a memorable morning frolicking with sea lions, you’ll picnic on the pristine beaches of Isla Espiritu Santo, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site that’s home to 40% of the world’s marine species.

The Sea of Cortez explorations continue with the possibility of a thrilling swim with whale sharks in the shallows of the Bay of La Paz and a volunteering opportunity with a local coral gardening program – to leave Baja better than you found it. Back on land, wander the enchanting cobblestones of Todos Santos, walk bluffs along the Pacific Coast, and discover street art in La Paz with a local artist. Itinerary

Day 1: San Jose del Cabo to Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve

Welcome to Baja California Sur! After arrival into the Los Cabos International Airport, your driver will whisk you away to a luxury tent camp on a local ranching family’s property. Relax for the afternoon or head out for a hike through the wild beauty of the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve. Then enjoy a delicious welcome dinner under the stars.

Day 2: Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve

The early morning birding here is fantastic – look for endemic cape pygmy owl, Xantus's hummingbird, and Belding´s yellowthroat. After some guided bird watching, enjoy a delicious ranch breakfast before heading out on the trail. On a guide’s choice trail, take in dramatic views of the Sierra La Laguna mountain range and learn about the flora and fauna. This afternoon, unwind with a margarita at happy hour.

Day 3: La Paz and Sea of Cortez

We leave the lovely mountain camp and, if the whale sharks are feeding, we're in for a truly memorable morning in the Sea of Cortez – swimming with whale sharks in the shallows of the Bay of La Paz where they feed on plankton. This afternoon, we are joined by a renowned urban muralist to explore the history and legends of La Paz through several beautiful public murals around town. After our adventurous wanderings, we’ll gather for dinner at our hotel.

Day 4: La Paz and Isla Espiritu Santo

Experience pure joy as you swim with sea lions – who love to play and interact with humans – at sea lion colony on a rocky islet. The boat journey to the sea lion colony will be eventful with the possibility to see lots of wildlife – look for dolphins, whales, manta rays, sea turtles, coastal birds, and more. After a memorable morning, enjoy a delicious picnic lunch at one of the pristine beaches on Isla Espiritu Santo.

Day 5: La Paz and Todo Santos

End your time in La Paz by leaving it more beautiful than you found it. This morning, we’ll volunteer with the Efecto Arena team – a local coral gardening non-profit organization. The next stop is Todos Santos for lunch followed by a historical walking tour in this enchanting town.

Day 6: Todos Santos

The morning, we’ll hike the scenic Pacific bluffs cliff trail. See a sea lion colony and rocky coves, as your guide offers in-depth perspective on flora, fauna, and the intriguing history of the area. After a “taco crawl” in Todo Santos today, we’ll join a cookbook author for a Mexican cooking class tonight. Learn how to make the perfect margarita and gain the skills to make some truly memorable Mexican dishes. A tasty end to a memorable trip!

Day 7: Departure Home from Los Cabos International Airport

The time has come to say adios to this beautiful corner of Mexico. Transfer to the airport for flights home.

Camp Cecil de la Sierra

Camp Cecil is a luxury tent camp located in the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve of Baja California Sur. There is a library/reading area and a stargazing space where guests can comfortably recline under the mountain skies. Guests can savor meals crafted with locally grown ingredients prepared by the on-site chefs. Activities available at the camp include hiking in the reserve, swimming in mountain watering holes, birdwatching, and stargazing.

Casa 1880 Hotel

Casa 1880 is a small, newly renovated seven room boutique hotel. Perfectly situated between vibrant downtown and the picturesque beachside promenade, all the best La Paz has to offer is right at your fingertips. This intimate hotel offers a secluded courtyard with an infinity pool, lush garden, and outdoor seating for relaxing after a long day of exploring. The onsite restaurant, Baja Explorer's Club, serves guests delicious international cuisine.

Los Colibris Casitas

Ocean views and a tranquil setting make this homey property the perfect retreat—all about a mile from the artsy town of Todos Santos. Accommodations are in stand-alone casitas, each well-appointed and with a variety of bedding configuration options. The lovely grounds boast loads of native tropical flowers, as well as an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. Sip coffee on the patio, watch for whales on your beach walks, and consider visiting the nearby turtle reserve.
